Preparing for the Photo Session

Staging is very important in creating photos that look like they belong in a magazine. These kinds of photos will have impact and attract buyers’ attention whether browsing the internet, TV or print material. Be sure the home is ready for photos both inside and out on the day of the photo session as there is an extra charge to make a second trip to the home for photos.

  • Follow these guidelines to prepare for the photo shoot:

  • Remove all unnecessary clutter throughout the home.

  • Open all draperies and window coverings

  • Have a fire in the fireplace no matter the time of year

  • Turn on all available light throughout the home to create a dramatic  professional look.

  • Clear clutter from kitchen countertops and remove all clutter from     refrigerators.

  • Remove wastebaskets that are unsightly.

  • Make all beds and clear all clutter in bedrooms. Remove any personal items that you do not want photographed.

  • Pets should be out of sight for the photo shoot.

  • Add decorative touches such as fresh flowers and plants. While you don’t want clutter, you also don’t want the rooms to be too plain. Go for a warm look.

  • Clear the lawn of hoses, toys, tools or other objects.

  • Sweep walkways and clean up after pets.

  • Mow and trim the lawn. Make sure overgrowth on hedges and trees are trimmed.

  • Remove cars from the driveway and from the street in front of the house. Be sure the garage door is closed.

  • Arrange patio furniture in an inviting manner.

  • Be sure trash bins are out of view.

  • Try to not schedule your photo shoot on trash day. If you do shoot on trash day, bring bins inside during the shoot.

  • For twilight shots, turn on all exterior and interior lights.
